Implant bridge

Implant bridge

An implant bridge is a permanent option for prosthetics when there is a loss of 3 or more teeth. Implant Bridge is more affordable than placing individual implants. Implant bridge is more reliable than a bridge prosthetic placed on your teeth.

A dental bridge over implants is a non-removable orthopedic structure made out of soldered crowns for the restoration of several teeth in a row.

Difference from a traditional dental bridge

The support for the bridge is not your own teeth, but pre-installed implants. It is not necessary to grind the enamel of adjacent healthy teeth to install it, unlike with traditional dental bridges.

Difference from classical single implant

Each missing tooth does not need a separate implant, a smaller number of implants is installed. An implant bridge can replace 3 or more missing teeth, by using 2 implants as a foundation for the bridge. It allows you to save money as compared to installing 3 separate implants

Advantages of implant bridge

If you lose several teeth in a row, bridge prosthetics over dental implants is the right solution. It allows you to properly distribute the load and not use your healthy teeth as a foundation for the bridge.

  • For an implant bridge we don’t need to shave your natural teeth

The supports for the bridge are the implants that are placed in the jaw, and not on your own teeth.

  • Aesthetics reasons

An implant bridge will look the same as your natural teeth.

  • Durability

With the right hygiene care, dental implants last a lifetime, and the service life of the prosthesis (an implant bridge) is at least twice as long as that of a classic dental bridge.

  • Affordable dental solution

Placing a dental bridge will save you money compared to individual implant treatment.

When implant bridge is a good solution

Here at Affordable Dentistry of South Florida we may recommend to have an implant bridge if:

  • There is a loss of three adjacent teeth ( individual dental implants may be an option as well)
  • The back teeth are missing (when there is no support on one side for a conventional bridge)
  • The teeth in between are completely edentulous, and there are no support for placing a traditional bridge

How many implants are needed when you have partial absence of teeth?

The pressure on the jaw when you are chewing food should be equal. When pressure is applied equally, the patient will not suffer bone loss or gum tissue recession. With that being said, there are a number of medical conditions and medications that can cause a more rapid bone loss — the most common conditions are: hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism, vitamin D deficiency and celiac disease, and the most common medications are steroids and aromatase inhibitors. Therefore, fixing the bridge on 2 implants is not always the right solution. It is recommended to use the calculation 1:2 – one implant for 2 crowns. Accordingly, the more teeth that are missing, the more implants will be required.

Full implant bridges on the lower and upper jaw is a permanent solution when all teeth are missing: All-on-4 implants, All-on-6 implants, and All-on-8 implants, which you can read about here.
